Is it okay to splice a broken videotape?

Question:
Is it okay to splice a broken videotape?

Answer:
It is not advisable to splice a video tape, as the splice could potentially damage the rotating video heads in your VCR or camcorder. If it is absolutely necessary to splice a tape in order to save the recording, the splice should be done carefully and the tape should only be run one time, to make a copy, and not used again unless another copy has to be made. Splicing should only be done by a professional tape restorer. Ask your videotape or equipment dealer for information on how to find such an expert.
