How should videocassettes be stored?

Question:
How should videocassettes be stored?

Answer:
Tapes should be stored upright, in their cases. Temperature should be between 63-degrees and 77-degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity should be between 40%-60% RH. It is important that temperatures remain relatively stable, as severely fluctuating temperatures can cause cinching, creasing and other types of damage to the tape. Videocassettes should be kept as clean and free of dust and debris as possible. Cool and dry is good for long-term storage.
